Rebels enter hoops rankings at No. 24

Updated Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 | 12:50 p.m.

UNLV’s 5-0 start, and victory over then-No. 16 Louisville on Saturday, earned the Rebels a spot in the Associated Press Top 25 poll today.

UNLV, with 191 points, checked in at No. 24 in the AP poll and No. 21 in the ESPN/USA Today poll. Kansas tops the polls. In the AP poll, Butler (4-2) is a spot ahead of the Rebels and Portland (5-1) is 25th.

It is UNLV's first AP ranking since the 2006-07 season, but it's also the Rebels' first November appearance in the poll since 1993. The coaches' poll has UNLV ranked No. 21.

“It’s great to be ranked at this time of the season,” said sixth-year UNLV coach Lon Kruger. “Of course, it’s early in the season. Still, it’s great to see your name in there. I think, most important, the guys understand there’s tons of room to improve.

“I’m happy for the fans and the players. And, most importantly, that we keep it in the right perspective and keep getting better.”
